Area of Interest 1B Revolutionary High TemperatureElectrochemical PowerTechnologyApplications are solicited for novel, revolutionary concepts to producepowerby high temperature electrochemical processes as stand alone products andforproducts integrated with other high temperature power generation systems toutilize currently rejected waste thermal energy. Applications for work onfuelcell types such as solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), molten carbonate fuelcells(MCFC), phosphoric acid, alkaline or polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM)willnot be accepted. Applications will not be accepted for work on othernon-revolutionary electrochemical means of power production such asbatteries.Applications may be considered if a concept includes elements of thesetechnologies and a strong case can be made that the concept isrevolutionary innature and not evolutionary work on existing concepts. Very high powerdensityand micro power devices will be considered. Reversible fuel cells and opensystem fuel cell, electrolyzer hybrids are two possibilities. Conceptsmust becapable of achieving a capital cost of 400 dollars per kW or less forannualproduction quantities of approximately 50,000. Proposed concepts andtechnologies must be consistent with the zero to near zero pollutionemissionand environmental hazard goals of the FutureGen, Climate Change and ClearSkiesprograms, including end of life disposal.
